Dr. Emma Patterson developed a passion for bariatric surgery during her
fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. She has more than 10 years experience and performed over 2,000 bariatric surgeries.
Dr. Patterson was the first surgeon in the Northwest to specialize in laparoscopic bariatric surgery. She was also the first to perform a laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding with the Lap-Band in the Northwest.
In 2000, Dr. Patterson established herself in private practice in Portland, Oregon. Also taking over the Medical Directorship of the bariatric program at Legacy Good Samaritan in its infancy and has led it to become a nationally recognized Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence.
As a recognized leader in U.S. laparoscopic bariatric surgery, she has performed over 2,000 laparoscopic bariatric surgery procedures. Annually, she performs hundreds of laparoscopic adjustable gastric bands, laparoscopic gastric bypasses and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomies. In addition to these primary procedures, she has mastered revisional procedures, and is the principal investigator on many studies of investigational devices. She recently performed the first reported Micro LAP-BAND procedure.
Training surgeons from around the world in the techniques of laparoscopic bariatric surgery and publishing more than 100 journal articles, abstracts and book chapters are very important to Dr. Patterson and to her work as the CEO of Oregon Weight Loss Surgery.
